Filing a formal grievance is a protected legal process in the UK. Here's what you need to know.
Employers must follow the ACAS Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures. If they don't, any employment tribunal award can be increased by up to 25%. Your employer must: acknowledge your grievance, invite you to a formal meeting, allow you to be accompanied, and give you a written outcome with the right to appeal.
Employment tribunal claims usually must be filed within 3 months minus one day of the issue. Before filing, you must contact ACAS for Early Conciliation, which pauses the time limit. Don't delay β a well-worded grievance letter now starts the clock on your employer.
